Haymarket Bicycles was created by co-owners Jared Nieters and Curtis Prosser in 2007. Curtis, a 20 year veteran of the industry, had run a number of successful shops and was looking for an opportunity to start one of his own. At the same time, Jared had taken leave from his teaching position to pursue his master’s degree in history. The two had become acquainted in the local Haymarket cycling community, and decided to go into business together. Haymarket Bicycles was born.

It was important to both Jared and Curtis that Haymarket Bicycles approach the industry differently. Exemplary treatment of the customer was to be the number one priority. They had both encountered too many bicycle shops that had impersonal and unapproachable atmospheres. Haymarket Bicycles was to be different; every customer, whether a first-time bike buyer or world-class racer, was to be treated well, with their individual wants and needs addressed with care and respect.

In the ensuing years, Haymarket Bicycles has become renowned for their expertise of all manner of bicycles, and customer service that is second to none.  We invite you to stop by one of our 3 locations and experience it for yourself.

Bikes

There’s no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong equipment …

It’s not just a clever industry catchphrase. With full lines available from Trek, Cannondale, Raleigh, GT, Niner, Van Dessel, and other brands, Haymarket Bicycles can help you find the right bicycle for every need short of the apocalypse (and someone’s probably working on that). From road bikes that fly like greased lightning up those long mountain passes under the heat of the summer sunshine, to fatbikes that ensure a solid grip through the snowy woods of winter, to easygoing townies that spin you down to the coffee shop or grocery store with barely a pedal stroke taken; we can ensure you find the right bike for every age, need, creed, persuasion, or flight of fancy.

And if our vast inventory doesn’t exactly meet your needs, special orders are as quick as one day, at no extra charge.

Road bikes: Meant for pavement use, like riding around in the city. Built for speed.

Mountain bikes: Rugged and meant for off-road use, but you can use them on pavement, too.

Hybrid bikes: A cross between mountain and road bikes. Not as fast as road bikes, and not as rugged as mountain bikes, but good for commuting.

Specialty Bikes: Anything from E-Bikes to race specific time trial bikes, Haymarket Bicycles can help you with the bike that fits your need.

Parts & Accessories

Sometimes you don’t need top-end componentry with your top-end frameset. Or maybe you want the gucci brakes or derailleurs to go on your mid-range steed because you’re addicted to their higher performance. When it comes to parts and accessories, our relationships with all major suppliers allow us to fix any bike or make any desired upgrade. And when it comes to clothing, we have options to cover you no matter what the conditions call for.

Our Community

Charity

Haymarket Bicycles understands our position as a small, locally owned business, and we work hard to support the community that supports us. By volunteering at local Bicycle Rodeos for youth organizations, to donating time and labor at events and fundraisers (like what? can i list them?), to hosting our annual Bike To Work Day pit stop, we make sure to contribute to the health and safety of our community.

Wednesday Nighter

When: Wednesday nights during daylight savings, 6:00 pm
Where: Haymarket Bicycles, Haymarket VA
Route: https://www.strava.com/activities/183149396
Distance/Time: 30-40 miles, 1.5-2 hours

Ride description: The perfect mix of smash-yourself and learn-the-ropes—the Wednesday Nighter is a summer tradition for Haymarket Bikes that draws all levels of competitive and recreational cyclists, including an occasional Pro Tour rider. After a neutral roll out of town, the first attacks usually come on the 12%+ Waterfall Rd climb and subsequent rollers. After the first town line sprint, the bunch will re-group before embarking on a 7-mile circuit around The Plains, VA, cumulating with a mass sprint back into town. After the sprint, the bunch again regroups at the ‘Studio before setting off for another circuit. After three laps (or fewer in early/late season due to daylight) the ride heads back to Haymarket, with one last KOM going over the Waterfall climb, and a final mass sprint on Antioch Rd. This isn’t a get dropped and ride home alone ride, but rather a chance for riders of all ages to push themselves to the limits of their abilities, recover, and do it again while learning group techniques in the process. During the mid summer there is a “B” group that will ride a slightly slower pace, and an “A” group that is race-paced.
Cyclocross Wednesdays

When: Wednesday nights during September and October, 5:30 to 6:00 pm
Where: Haymarket Bicycles Fit Studio, The Plains VA
Distance/Time: 60-90 minutes

Ride description: When the nights get cooler and the leaves start to change, it’s cyclocross season for Haymarket Bicycles. Riders meet around 6:00 pm for a group cyclocross practice at a private cyclocross course in The Plains. Workouts usually include drills, 10 minute scratch races, and multiple-lap team relays that focus on both technique and all-out speed on skinny knobbies. Mountain bikes, without bar ends, are welcome if you do not have a ‘cross bike.
Winter Wednesday Nighter

When: Wednesday nights November – March, 6:00 pm
Where: Haymarket Bicycles, Haymarket VA
Route: https://www.strava.com/activities/100887022
Distance/Time: 25 miles, 2 hours

Ride description: When racing seasons wind down, its time for some social riding on some of Faquier and Prince William County’s finest dirt roads. This ride starts and ends in the dark, so head and tail lights are required. Standard route goes up and over Waterfall Rd, like the summer ride, however it then heads north up the unpaved climbs of Busthead Rd and Logan’s Mill, then back over Bull Run Mountain. Approximately 50% of the route is gravel, so 25c or wider gatorskin-type tires are recommended. Pace varies from casual to all-out mayhem, but overall is a no-drop ride that will regroup at various points to ensure no one is left in the dark.

The Studio Tuesday Nighter

When: Tuesday nights, April through September, 6:00 pm
Where: Haymarket Bicycles Fit Studio, The Plains VA
Route: https://www.strava.com/activities/312583075
Distance/Time: 22 miles, 1.5 hours

Ride description: The little sibling to the Wednesday nighter, this ride is aimed at introducing new cyclists to riding in a group. The route starts at the ’Studio in The Plains, then winds through scenic country Faquier County towards Delaplain, VA, before finally turning back through Marshall to The Plains. The rolling course offers some challenge to newer riders, but frequent regroups along the way ensure the group stays together and the ride remains at a conversational pace. The final regroup occurs on John Marshall highway, then multiple group of various abilities often form on the straight shot back to the ‘Studio.
